One of the easiest ways to ensure a high quality timber to give a desired service life of 60 years for both permeable species (redwood) and resistant species (whitewood) is to treat it with a preservative. At Minera Roof Trusses we utilise a Double Vacuum Treatment Process using the Protim preservation system for wood, treated for use in construction projects that require protection to Use Class 1. This provides protection against insect attack for timbers, with no risk of wetting, to be used internally above the damp proof course (dpc) level. Treatment with preservatives to European standards are applied in accordance with the guidance from BS8417:2011+A1:2014.
Examples of where Use Class 1 preservative is used are: All pitched timbers except tiling battens and valley gutter members, floor boards, architraves, internal joinery, skirting and all timbers in upper floors which are not built into solid external walls.Diagram highlighting how we treat our timber with Kopper’s Protim E406 preservative
