One of the easiest ways to ensure a high quality timber to give a desired service life of 60 years for both permeable species (redwood) and resistant species (whitewood) is to treat it with a preservative. At Minera Roof Trusses we utilise a Double Vacuum Treatment Process using the Protim preservation system for wood, treated for use in construction projects that require protection to Use Class 1. This provides protection against insect attack for timbers, with no risk of wetting, to be used internally above the damp proof course (dpc) level. Treatment with preservatives to European standards are applied in accordance with the guidance from BS8417:2011+A1:2014.
Examples of where Use Class 1 preservative is used are: All pitched timbers except tiling battens and valley gutter members, floor boards, architraves, internal joinery, skirting and all timbers in upper floors which are not built into solid external walls.
Koppers Preserved Timber – Protim is a preservation system for wood, pressure treated for use in construction projects that require protection to hazard categories H1, H2, H3 such as roof timbers, timber framing, internal and external joinery and other internal and external timber projects that are above dpc/ground level. When using Protim in external applications it will need to be coated with a suitable external coating.

Any surface of timber exposed to drilling or cutting must be re-treated with a cut end preservative. Minera Roof Trusses provide Cut ‘N’ Treat to ensure the value of the preserved timber is not compromised should your project require cutting on site.
