Solution

Walker Sheppard took advantage of our free site measurement service which ensured that accuracy was maintained, with our team carrying out four visits to the site throughout their build. The plots detailed key design features including covered veranda area and large French doors. These were accessible from the indoor living space in order to take advantage of the fantastic surrounding countryside scenery. We were delighted to provide a bespoke solution for the luxurious nature of the build which relied on our design team’s attention to detail and our high quality roof trusses to allow for a superior finish onsite.

Results

By applying our technical expertise and supplying our high quality manufactured roof trusses, the builds were completed to a very high specification, truly emanating their luxurious feel.

Minera Roof Trusses ensured the four separate deliveries were carefully scheduled to coincide with the client’s planned timescales. This meant the client could progress with other tradesmen to ensure the build developed efficiently.

During the project we worked closely with AECOM the appointed structural engineers to produce special structural connections to tie the trusses to the buildings and to each other. We provided detailed designs and erection stage plans that were delivered to site with the trusses to ensure ease of assembly.

Technical

We worked closely on the design elements of the project to facilitate a high specification and seamless finish. Attention to technical detail was provided by our designer, Jon Grimes, who was the client’s main point of contact and answered any queries for Walker Sheppard throughout the project.

In order to form the covered veranda area, a cantilever was incorporated into the trusses. This is the part of a structural member of a truss which extends beyond its load bearing point which sits on the wall plate. The cantilever was then supported by a hidden purlin (a horizontal beam along the length of the roof) which rested upon feature pillars positioned along the front of the building.

In addition to the covered veranda area, Girder trusses in hangers were utilised for the valley set in order to give stability to the roof above the French door feature. This meant that weight from the trusses was alleviated by the lintel where the doors were positioned, ensuring structural durability was maintained.

Conclusion
