Bespoke Roof Trusses

Slide Shoes

Slide Shoes are fitted at bearing points allow for of lateral movement. The sliding mechanism of the glide shoe ensures the amount of horizontal force transposed to the wall is significantly reduced and thus minimises the potential for structural damage.

It has been observed in the construction industry that under extreme conditions, the use of truss clips with trusses has caused splitting of the rafter at the wallplate and movement at the top of the masonry walls. This is due to the horizontal movement (spread) of the foot of the rafter at the birdsmouth when it bears onto the wallplate which can be a dangerous and costly problem.

It is for this reason a glide shoe is preferred because this allows horizontal sliding when the tile loading is applied, but does not allow any lateral movement or vertical uplift which complies to NHBC and LA regulations. Installing a slide shoe is extremely easy to do, simply nail the slide shoe to wallplate and attach the bearing plate to the underside of truss bearing area. Use twisted nails to secure the glide shoe in place, all of which can be added to your existing order with Minera Roof Trusses.

All our slide shoes are made using pre-galvanised mild steel to BS EN 10142 DX51D Z275 and we can supply slides shoes in a variety of sizes to suit widths of 38mm to 150mm.
