A while ago now, we penned a quick Q&A with our Operations Director, Eric and posted it on our News Stories page. If you missed it and would like to read the behind the scenes on the guy who travels the UK carrying out our site measuring service then you can have a nose at the link at the bottom of this article. Needless to say, it went down an absolute storm – so we thought, why not make a series of it?
Who better to kick-start the series off with than none other than Nia?! Nia is the first person that you are likely to speak with on the phone, get a response from via email or be greeted by with a smile if you visit us at the offices. From feedback we receive, I’m pretty sure that her kindness alone can be held accountable for the many valued customers that choose to reorder with us time and time again – our customers love her that much. On a serious note though, the lady really is a delight to be around so it’s no surprise that you (as well as ourselves) can’t speak highly enough of her!
We put the spotlight on Nia and find out a little more about the lady behind the desk which is covered with pink stationary and organisers.
“In a word - Admin. I’m pretty much the main port of call for the customers over the phone and email or if they pop into the office. If anyone needs help with anything in the office, they know they can always come to me.”
*pauses* “I don’t necessarily have a typical day. In the morning I always arrive early purely because I like to make sure everything is ready to go before the welcomed (and organised) chaos begins. It will start with a coffee and a croissant – obviously!”
“The first few hours will fly by with me logging in all of the enquiries that we have received overnight and filing paperwork away from the previous afternoon’s jobs. Of course, I will make sure my girls (referring to Karen, Lisa & Lexie) are fuelled with a freshly brewed coffee and ready for the day.”
“Alongside this, I will answer the many phone calls that come in and process payments for customers, print tags and keep the metalwork topped up for the factory. Oh and more filing – there’s never a dull moment, I’m always BUSY!
Nia’s instant response is, “Crazy Pink Lady?” Once she has a gauge of my response Nia comes back with, “Would you like a serious answer? I’d probably say - upbeat, conscientious and a chocaholic.”
I think anyone who knows Nia would agree this is pretty accurate!
“At the risk of sounding slightly cheesy, it’s talking to all of the customers and staff. I’m a people person! I like talking to everyone (new customers and regulars) and I believe communication is what keeps us all going on the same page.”
Nia jokes, “If I told you that I would have to kill you! But if you really forced an answer from me it would probably be – routine! The same routine every morning allows me to keep on top of the workload. That does only work for the morning though – after that it’s a case of ‘Don’t panic. Stay calm and crack on!”
“It feels like we’re always expanding – we’re putting ourselves out there more and that is really exciting. We’re gaining new contacts every day and I like forming relationships with new customers as well as our regulars. I still have a soft spot for them – they become friends in a way who we check in with all of the time.”
“I don’t know if I have a biggest achievement? I like to appreciate the little things that I achieve each day. I set mini personal goals – for example, it’s not necessarily work related but I shot 19 out of 25 clays the other day. Normally I only shoot 14. In the beginning, I didn’t think I’d be able to get 14 so beating a personal best, no matter what size always makes me feel good.”
1. There’s a lot to take in – truss types, technical do’s and don’ts, metal work so don’t panic you’ll pick it up!
2. Come armed with a sense of humour – we’re all a tad unique here! It’s a fun place to work so if you show off your personality then you will fit right in.
3. Bring biscuits!
“I shoot clays, I sing and I eat copious amounts of Italian food!
I’ve been shooting for about 3 ½ years and it was actually my cousin Ryan (a designer in the team) and my Uncle Gareth that got me into it. I wasn’t sure what to expect but an hour in to my first session and I was hooked! In the summer, you will probably find me at Fauxdegla Shooting Ground twice a week.
Music is so important to me – I’ve always been a bit of a classical/opera music appreciation buff but now I get to join in and sing. I sing as part of a Choir called PopVox in Wrexham and I love it! We get to sing a variety of music styles. I attend weekly and we usually always have a few songs to learn every month ready for upcoming performances that are in the pipeline.
Lastly, is Italy! I love everything Italian – the food, people, culture, music – everything! Coming from a woman who hasn’t been there yet it may sound odd but I have set the wheels are in motion for getting there in time for my 30th birthday celebrations in 2 years! In the meantime, I get my Italian fix at Sergio’s in Chester where I am a regular - I think the staff think I’m part of the furniture! If you haven’t been then go – you won’t regret it!”
